More importantly, she has embarked on another teaching career, introducing
people to the joy be creating unique silver jewelry using minimal equipment
There have been several constants in my life. One of those has been creating
things with my hands. That love has undergone many transformations over the
years, but it is always there to give me pleasure and to challenge me to explore
new things. I am so fortunate that it led me to discover the wonder of metal
clay.
Since 1999 when I first read about this magical new material, I was fascinated
by the possibilities. My exploration led me to my first certification class
with Mary Ann Devos. I was honored to be asked to be one of the first 9 Senior
Instructors for the PMC Connection. From that point on, it has been a grand
adventure. Students sometimes ask what technique I love the most about metal
clay and what I think my speciality is. My first metal clay love was the collage,
using paste on objects from nature. Then I fell in love with creating mirror
finishes on my pieces by hand.
My students think I'm nuts, but I love the feeling of the metal changing under
my hands. However, I always come back to what drove me to learn about metal
clay, and that was combining PMC with fused glass. I love the glitter of dichroic
glass surrounded by the beauty of silver. Above all else, however, I think
my true love is teaching itself. In my heart of hearts, I am a teacher down
to my very soul. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing people learn and have
those ahaa moments. For me, PMC is like chocolate for the creative soul, so
I hope that my biggest specialty is teaching and sharing that knowledge.
